History
Sundance, established as a Native American- and Woman-Owned Small Business in 2005, has grown into a premier environmental consulting and remediation firm. Prior to 2005, Sundance’s founder, September Myres, worked for several environmental organizations supporting the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Pueblos of New Mexico, and Native Alaskan Villages under the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP). Through this experience, she gained expertise in bringing together culturally diverse organizations to provide environmental solutions while meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders. The Department of Defense (DoD) developed NALEMP in 1996 as a program targeted specifically at addressing the effects of past DoD activities on Indian lands and properties conveyed by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act.
Ms. Myres started Sundance to provide her clients solutions to environmental issues resulting from DoD activities on Tribal lands. Her success has led to consecutive NALEMP contracts each year since 2005, as well as many other USACE contracts through which Sundance provides remediation, environmental consulting, and records management services. Sundance has additionally been awarded contracts with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Energy, National Interagency Fire Center, National Park Service, US Forest Service, various DoD agencies, and many other federal and state agencies, as well as local agencies and commercial and private clients. Sundance has maintained a steady and controlled growth and currently has more than 90 employees nationwide, from Washington to Guam. Sundance maintains a staff of interdisciplinary experts in archaeology, biology, botany, ecology, engineering, geology, geographic information systems, hydrology, toxicology and risk assessment, and a variety of other technical disciplines associated with renewable energy, compliance, planning and permitting, remediation, and environmental conservation and consulting.
